In just two weeks, Raining Robots will finally be out in the world, and I couldn’t be more excited—for myself, and especially for Jordan. This day has been a long time coming, especially for a nine-year-old who first shared his big idea with me around this time last year. It all started with that simple statement, “Grammy, I have an idea,” and, well, here we are.
Jordan stayed over last night, and before breakfast was even on the table, he was already talking about the third book in the series! That’s right—he’s plotting away for the next big adventure. Meanwhile, we haven’t even begun the second book, The Rise of the Tech Pals, (though we do have the plot down) and my own writing schedule is packed! My sixth book in the Chronicles of the Ordained series releases on January 21st (and if I’m honest, it’s not quite ready yet), and I’ve also committed to a Christmas story for next year. But something tells me I’ll find a way to work in Book Two for Jordan’s series, because this journey with him has been worth every minute.
Even before Raining Robots hits the shelves, this project has already been a success. Jordan’s imagination knows no bounds, and he’s so sure that readers everywhere are going to love his story. And, honestly, they should—if I’ve done justice to his vision. I’ve had the pleasure of looking at the world through his eyes during this process, and let me tell you, there’s nothing like it. Children have this beautiful, unfiltered way of seeing things, unburdened by the “real world” that comes with growing up. They dream big because they still believe anything is possible.
I can’t wait to share Jordan’s story with the world, to give readers a glimpse into the incredible, futuristic world he’s built. And maybe, just maybe, Raining Robots will help some of us recapture a little of that childlike wonder and inspiration. So, mark your calendars for November 26th—it’s going to be an adventure!
