Some stories just happen.
One afternoon, my grandson Jordan came home from the Museum of Science absolutely buzzing with excitement. Heâd just seen a robot dog, and his eyes were as wide as saucers. Before he even took his shoes off, he said, âGrammy, I’ve got an idea for a book.â
And just like thatâRaining Robots was born.
Thatâs the thing about kids. When they dream, they dream big. Jordan didnât just imagine a robot dogâhe imagined a whole world. A boy named Blu. A giant Great Dane made of metal named D.O.G. A secret mission to save the Earth from a robot invasion. And before long, we were knee-deep in superhero ideas, gadgets, and adventures that made us both laugh out loud.
What started as one wild âwhat ifâ turned into a story filled with everything Jordan lovesâdogs, action, and saving the world. And honestly? Seeing that spark in him reminded me how important it is to listen when a child starts to dream out loud.
Kids see things we forget to notice. They believe in superheroes because they still believe the world can be savedâand maybe theyâre right.
Writing Raining Robots with Jordan reminded me how joyful it is to look at life through a childâs eyes. The world feels a little brighter, a little braver, and a whole lot more fun.
So, if youâve got a young dreamer in your life, encourage them. Ask the silly questions. Let them tell the wild stories. Because sometimes, one little ideaâlike a robot dogâcan turn into something amazing.
⨠Raining Robots is for every kid (and grown-up!) who still believes in heroes.
